A bird can easily become unhappy by sitting in an empty birdcage all day. Birds have solid beaks and active minds that need to be occupied to keep them happy and engaged. Boredom is the leading cause of plucking in birds, which leads to birds pulling out their feathers. This is why it's crucial to choose the appropriate swings and toys for your pet bird. When selecting swings and toys for your bird, consider the following:
Size- When selecting a swing or toy for your bird, ensure that it is the appropriate size. Some swings and toys are designed for little birds and aren't safe for your large bird. Larger pet birds have more powerful beaks, which can easily damage toys meant for smaller birds. Broken pieces from these toys can be a possible choking hazard.
Types- Bird toys are available in different forms with different functionalities. Some toys require foraging, some encourage exercise, some are puzzles, some make noise, and some are foot toys. Some toys are meant to comfort your pet birds, while others are intended to reduce temper and frustrations. Get your bird different types of toys to keep him/her entertained. Different types of toys will also keep your bird challenged, release aggressiveness, and keep fit.
Personality- You can understand your bird's toy personality through observation. This will help you to choose the best swing and toy for your pet bird. Which types of materials, textures, colors, and/or shapes does your bird favor? Observe how your bird interacts with different toys, shades, and materials, and use your findings to make the best bird perch and toy selection that will keep your pet entertained.
Safety- Avoid poorly built perches and toys at all costs. Also, stay clear of toys with areas that could trap your birds' head or pinch your bird's toes. Keep in mind that a bird can get his little beak into anything, so ensure that the toys and perches you purchase are tough enough. This will avoid the risk of them breaking them, or even your bird swallowing the damaged items.
Toy rotation- Just like kids, birds also get bored quickly; that is why it's essential to rotate their toys. Do not put all the toys in the cage. Instead, put a few and rotate them occasionally. Also, ensure you hide the others where he or she can't see them. After a week or two, change the toys in the cage with the surprise toys. Rotation also offers you a chance to clean the toys without aggravating the bird.

Staff is always super friendly and helpful and the the store is always clean and we'll stocked.
The staff at One Stop are all very knowledgeable and friendly. I feel it's very important to support One Stop because they not only carry the highest quality products but they donate very large quantities of high quality products to Monadnock Humane society(our local shelter). The prices are great but I'd pay more there simply to assist w/their involvement in our community. Local businesses supporting other local businesses deserve our support. I really feel it's our duty to help when we are able. One Stop sets the best example for local businesses. Amazing service, friendly staff, knowledgeable in every aspect. There is nothing that could improve them as they are already at the very top!!
Helpful staff and plenty of supplies
One Stop should be the go to place for all your pet supply needs, from the vast variety of high quality foods, toys, equipment and accessory items. If they don't have it, you probably don't need it. The staff is always helpful with there product knowledge and service. I have always found the store neat and clean with a pleasant atmosphere. And the pricing is always on point too, even compared to the online retailers like Chewy's or Amazon. I really enjoy supporting this local business, my cat does too . . .
We have been One Stop customers for some time now. The Brattleboro store was our "home base," but on occasion we stop by the Keene store. This past weekend, we stopped to see what was new as we have not been to the Keene store since COVID hit. There were some familiar faces and some new ones as well. The store (despite the shortages that have been plaguing many pet supplies) was surprisingly well stocked and extremely well organized. We also found out that one of the most knowledgeable and helpful members of the Brattleboro team is now the manager in Keene! Looking through past reviews, there are several negative reviews of this store; that has not ever been our experience, but we are happy to see the new management making positive changes! Of our zoo worth of animals, Fish seem to be the most difficult to get and the fish room at Keene has always been very well stocked and we have made many purchases in Keene. We look forward to many more positive experiences with One Stop and are definitely excited to see how the new management continues to improve an already great store!
